Prerequisite Skills:​  Beginners must be comfortable with not being perfect, as making errors is a necessary part of the language acquisition process, especially when learning.

Course Description: This course will build students’ confidence in Spanish. It will start with a firm linguistic and grammatical base, which is the foundation of effective communication. It will also develop an appreciation of the Spanish speaking world and its culture. It will provide the student the opportunity to practice their Spanish skills in class with the teacher and classmates. We will focus on the 5 Cs objectives for Foreign Language: Communication, Culture, Connection, Comparison and Communities.

Tuition: $400 plus $50 one time materials fee

Class size: Minimum of 10 students

Required Materials

• Descubre Level 1 cuaderno de práctica (workbook, no pictures of the cover, you can find it in Amazon.com and will last for Spanish 1 & 2)
• Descubre Level 1 Cuaderno de actividades comunicativas (workbook, no pictures of the cover, you can find it in Amazon.com will last for Spanish 1 & 2)
• Descubre Level 1 textbook (no need to buy, provided by teacher as a loan during school year)
• 3-ring binder dedicated to Spanish only
• College-ruled notebook paper
• Black or blue pens, a red pen for homework correction

Teacher Qualifications: Señora Juárez is a bilingual English & Spanish speaker with a BS in Industrial Engineering from Monterrey Institute of Technology (ITESM) in Mexico and a Foreign Language Teaching certificate from the University of Virginia. She taught Spanish at St. Joseph School (1st-8th grade) in Herndon for ten years and at Bishop O’Connell (Spanish 1- AP Spanish Language and Culture) for 6 before retiring, She moderated several students’ clubs as The Hispanic Heritage Club and the Interact Club at DJO. Currently she runs a private tutoring company at her home.
